TRUE Christian Persecution: Evangelicals in Chiapas Held after Refusing to Contribute to Catholic Festival
Native evangelical Christians in Mexico continue to suffer the persecution of Catholic traditionalists. Energy and water cuts are used to intimidate faith minorities.
At least 12 native evangelicals were held illegally on Easter Sunday in the municipality of Zinacantán (Chiapas, south Mexico).
They were attending a local district assembly to discuss issues of common interest. But the agenda of the gathering was changed as the leaders of the municipality addressed the organisation of the Catholic festival of the ‘Holy Cross’, which is to be celebrated on May 2.
The evangelicals rejected to contribute to the religious festival, said lawyer and member of “Mission 21 grams” Luis López Herrera. Herrera, who offers legal support to victims of religious intolerance in Chiapas, denounced that the 12 evangelical Christians were held against their will for almost 24 hours.
The local assembly elected the so-called “stewards”, a traditionalist Catholic figure in Chiapas whose role is to administrate (and often also contribute to) the financial area of the Catholic festivals.
The majority of the assembly deliberately decided that evangelical pastor Juan Hernández Pérez was to become the new “steward”. The pastor immediately refused to accept the role and as a reaction, he and other 11 members of the Christ Comes Pentecost evangelical church were not allowed to leave the building. Catholic Scholars Accuse Pope Francis Of Heresy Concerning Marriage And Sexuality
A group of Catholic scholars and theologians pronounced Pope Francis guilty of heresy in an open letter urging bishops to investigate their accusations.
The signatories of the open letter, which include clergy, argued that Francis’ refusal to clarify his teachings on marriage, divorce, and Holy Communion in Amoris Laetitia, and what they see as his inappropriate handling of the sex abuse crisis constitutes heresy. The letter exhorts bishops to investigate the claims of heresy against Francis and, if they find them valid, to admonish him to renounce those heresies or remove him from the papacy. “Taken together, the words and actions of Pope Francis amount to a comprehensive rejection of Catholic teaching on marriage and sexual activity, on the moral law, and on grace and the forgiveness of sins,” the open letter states.
The letter’s authors clarified that there is a demonstrable link between Francis’ “rejection of Catholic teaching” and what they see as his preferential treatment of clergy friendly to his views who have been accused of sexual misconduct.
“The Open letter also indicates the link between this rejection of Catholic teaching and the favour shown by Pope Francis to bishops and other clergy who have either been guilty of sexual sins and crimes, such as former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, or who have protected clergy guilty of sexual sins and crimes, such as the late Cardinal Godfried Danneels,” the authors said, according to CNS News. Catholic priests in Philippines CRUCIFY themselves in penance ahead of Easter
Dozens of barefoot penitents in the Philippines whipped themselves and carried large wooden crosses in punishing heat.
Some of the men wore red robes with their faces covered and hands tied to crosses as they walked for hours along a highway in the northern province of Pampanga.
Others were half-naked and used bamboo flails to flog their backs which had been nicked with blades.
One of the penitents, Roger Aquino, a 59-year-old village official, said: “We always pray for strength, good health for our families, and thank God for blessings.
“People should understand that what we do is a tradition and they should respect it.”
The groups stopped to pray at several places along their route while women recited religious verses.
It is part of a ritual ahead of Easter in Asia’s biggest Catholic nation. Read more here
LA Archdiocese Pays Record $8 Million in Sex Abuse Settlement
LOS ANGELES (ChurchMilitant.com) – Despite claims from Church leaders that child sexual abuse is a historical problem, a recent settlement shows that children are still being abused.
In the largest payout in U.S. history for sexual abuse, the archdiocese of Los Angeles has just agreed to an $8 million settlement to a female victim of sexual abuse by her former Catholic high school athletic director, Juan Ivan Barajas.
Barajas is in prison for the felony statutory rape of the girl when she was a 15-year-old freshman at San Gabriel Mission High School in Los Angeles County.
After Barajas’ wife discovered text messages on his phone, she alerted police, and Barajas fled with the girl to Las Vegas where he was arrested without incident.
The civil lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court in August 2017, claims the archdiocese was guilty of negligent hiring, supervision and retention and breaching their duty to report suspected child abuse. Read more here
Pope sends aid to migrants stranded at the US border
Thousands of Central American migrants in Mexico are in need of assistance.
By Vatican News – Pope Francis has donated 500,000 dollars to assist migrants in Mexico. The funds, from the Peter’s Pence collections, will be distributed among 27 projects promoted by sixteen Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, which requested assistance in continuing to provide food, lodging, and basic necessities to the migrants.

According to a statement from Peter’s Pence, “In recent months, thousands of migrants have arrived in Mexico, having travelled more than 4,000 kilometres on foot and with makeshift vehicles from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala. Men and women, often with young children, flee poverty and violence, hoping for a better future in the United States. However, the US border remains closed to them.”
Diminished aid and media coverage
In particular, the aid is intended to assist the more than 75,000 people who arrived in Mexico in 2018, in six migrant caravans. “All these people were stranded, unable to enter the United States, without a home or livelihood”, the statement reads. “The Catholic Church hosts thousands of them in hotels within the dioceses or religious congregations, providing basic necessities, from housing to clothing”. Film on Catholic priests using nuns as ‘sex slaves’ pulled
Paris (AFP) – A hit documentary about how some Catholic priests allegedly abused nuns in different parts of the world has been pulled from the Franco-German television channel Arte after a priest complained to a German court.
The big-budget media investigation, “Sex Slaves in the Catholic Church”, was broadcast in March and has been sold widely internationally since.
Its broadcast came weeks after Pope Francis admitted that some rogue priests had used nuns as “sexual slaves” and that the Vatican had to dissolve a French order because its founder was preying on its sisters.
The Vatican’s women’s magazine, Women Church World, also reported that some nuns had been forced into having abortions.
Arte told AFP Tuesday that it was forced to pull the documentary from its replay site earlier this month after a press tribunal in Hamburg slapped a temporary injunction on the film following a complaint from a priest.
The tribunal told AFP the priest complained that, while he was not shown in the documentary, he was “recognisable” from an interview given by a nun.
In the interview, the nun “gave the impression that the priest had forced a nun into sex against her will”.
