Pope denounces governments that use media to defame critics
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis is denouncing the way some governments seek to discredit their critics through “whisper” campaigns, using the media to defame anyone who represents a threat.
During his morning homily Thursday, Francis said such slander campaigns can infect relations in families, parishes and dioceses, as well as global politics.
He said the damage done by the “sin of whispering” is particularly grave in politics “when a government isn’t honest and seeks to sling mud at its adversaries with whispers, defamation, calumny.”
Francis didn’t single out any country, but said dictatorial governments are known for taking control of the media to “diminish anyone who represents a threat.”
Francis this year is dedicating his annual peace message to urging greater responsibility in politics. Yahoo News
One Third Of All Catholic Bishops In America Now Implicated In Cover up To Protect Pedophile Priests Who Molested Children
Sixteen years after the clergy sexual-abuse crisis exploded in Boston, the American Catholic Church is again mired in scandal. This time, the controversy is propelled not so much by priests in the rectories, as by the leadership, bishops across the country who like Finn have enabled sexual misconduct or in some cases committed it themselves
When you read stories about Catholic priests who molested children not once, not twice, but repeatedly over many decades, have you ever wondered just how that could happen? Certainly their boss the bishop would do something about that, right? And certainly the ‘holy father‘ at the Vatican would do something to protect the children, right? Wrong, on both counts.
“And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!” Matthew 18:5-7 (KJV)
The most heinous thing about the Catholic priest sex scandals, in the tens of thousands at this point, is the degree to which the Vatican has gone to cover it all up. When a local bishop hears about a priest molesting kids, that priest is quietly transferred to another parish where he is free to do it all over again. When news of the bishop who covered for the priest reaches the Vatican, that bishop is quietly moved ‘into retirement’ where he will stay, all his needs paid for from Vatican slush funds, and you never hear about him again.
And what about Pope Francis who ‘promised reform’? Not a chance. In fact, he is now labeling the victims of sexual assault by Catholic priests as ‘accusers’ in the same league as the Devil. The coverup is alive and well at the highest levels of the Catholic Church.
America’s Catholic bishops vowed to remove abusive priests in 2002. In the years that followed, they failed to police themselves.
FROM THE PHILLY INQUIRER: More than 130 U.S. bishops – or nearly one-third of those still living — have been accused during their careers of failing to adequately respond to sexual misconduct in their dioceses, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer and Boston Globe examination of court records, media reports, and interviews with church officials, victims, and attorneys.
At least 15, including Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington who resigned in July, have themselves been accused of committing such abuse or harassment.
Most telling, the analysis shows that the claims against more than 50 bishops center on incidents that occurred after a historic 2002 Dallas gathering of U.S. bishops where they promised that the church’s days of concealment and inaction were over. By an overwhelming though not unanimous vote, church leaders voted to remove any priest who had ever abused a minor and set up civilian review boards to investigate clergy misconduct claims. Priest pedophilia is on the rise again, linked to homosexuality
On Nov. 2, 2018, Louisiana-based Ruth Institute released a study, Is Catholic clergy sex abuse related to homosexual priests?.
The Ruth Institute was founded in 2008 by Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, an economics-trained author and writer on marriage, family and human sexuality who was the spokesperson for Proposition 8, the California ballot measure defining marriage as a union of one man and one woman which was passed by voters but nixed by an activist judge. Far-left groups including the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, and Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) have criticized the Ruth Institute’s stance against same-sex marriage and other LGBT causes. In Aug. 23, 2017, responding to being labeled a “hate group” by SPLC, the Ruth Institute said it “categorically condemns white supremacy, racism, Nazism, and all violent totalitarian political movements. People who cannot defend their positions using reason and evidence resort to name-calling to change the subject away from their anemic arguments. The ‘hate group’ label is a club such people invented to bludgeon their political opponents.”
The study was conducted by Ruth Institute senior research associate Dr./ Rev. D. Paul Sullins — a recently retired Catholic University of America sociology professor who is a leader in the field of research on same-sex parenting and its implications for child development, with four books, including Keeping the Vow: The Untold Story of Married Catholic Priests, and over 100 journal articles, research reports, and essays on issues of family, faith, and culture. He is a former Episcopal priest, married for 30 years with three children, who was ordained to the Catholic priesthood in 2002. He is Associate Pastor of the Church of Saint Mark the Evangelist, Hyattsville, MD.
The study addresses a common question: Is the sex abuse related in any way to homosexual men in the priesthood? It has been reviewed by several scholars, including four social scientists, and will be included in an upcoming book. More at FOTM
The Pope is ‘in awe’ of a Christian version of Pokémon GO!
“Follow Jesus Christ Go!”, also known as “Follow JC Go!”, is known to many as the Christian version of augmented reality game, “Pokémon GO!”.
However, that isn’t quite the case — while the games share many similarities, the newer take on the original is very different in many ways.
It was released in Rome by evangelical organisation the Ramón Pané Foundation. So far, the game has only been developed for Spain and Italy, but will soon be translated into English and Portguese.
Available for both iOS and Android, the app was developed with World Youth Day 2019 in mind — an international Catholic event centred on religious faith and youth, due to be celebrated in Panama in January 2019. The goal is for users to travel the world together through “Evangelization teams”, learning facts about the Christian faith. See more here

US Catholic Bishops Fund Pro-Abort Socialists in Indiana
During the weekend of Nov. 17–18, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will be taking up its annual, national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). This collection reallocates funds from dioceses throughout the United States to community organizing groups around the country. Despite repeated denials and alleged reforms, the CCHD continues to fund organizations that are acting in direct contradiction with Catholic moral and social teaching and against the very guidelines of the CCHD itself.
Last month, The Lepanto Institute reported that the CCHD provided $240,000 to an organization that promotes Planned Parenthood, legalized prostitution and homosexuality. Last week, Lepanto reported on $280,000 in Catholic funding that went to an organization run by pro-abortion and pro-homosexual activists. Read the rest here
